Young Tauranga road cyclist Ryan Russell is pushing his case for selection after winning the Tour of Canberra.
New Zealand has three spots in the men's road race, but Cycling New Zealand will not be selecting its team until after the Tour of Japan at the end of this month.
The women's champion in Canberra, controversial former Olympic champion Kathy Watt, has not given up her quest to get back in the Australian team.
After missing out on their road squad, then trying to ride for New Zealand, Watt is off to the World Cup in Moscow to try to win the individual pursuit spot.
