New Zealand's dire Gold Coast Commonwealth Games netball campaign has stuttered to a close, the Silver Ferns beaten 60-55 by Jamaica in the bronze medal match at Coomera.
The loss is New Zealand's fourth of the tournament, following on from defeats by Malawi, England and Australia.
It was also the first time since netball's introduction to the Games at Kuala Lumpur in 1998 that the Kiwis hadn't made the final, which will be fought out later on Sunday between Australia and England.
On Sunday, the final day of the Games, Jamaica were more efficient in converting their turnovers, opening out to a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In contrast, the New Zealanders struggled to make any gains, and too often lost possession on transition.
They battled to bring the ball to circle edge, and the feed into Bailey Mes and Maria Folau rarely looked assured.
The duo also struggled on the shot - Mes converting 12 from 18 and Folau 15 from 22 in the first half.
Defensively things were a little brighter, circle defenders Temalisi Fakahokotau and Katrina Grant doing some sterling work in pressuring towering shooters Jhaniele Fowler-Reid and Romelda Aiken.
Some hard-won defensive gains helped the Silver Ferns claw their way back to win the second quarter 16-14 and cut Jamaica's lead to just two at half-time.
Five quickfire goals early in the third quarter gave the Kiwis the lead for the first and only time at 32-30, but Jamaica hit back almost immediately to open out a seven-goal lead.
They maintained that margin into the three-quarter break, leading 46-39 with 15 minutes remaining, going on to control the final spell and close out a win that never really looked in doubt.
