Athletics: Robertson twins are Gold Coast bound

African-based twins Jake and Zane Robertson have been added to the New Zealand athletics team for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Both competed at the previous edition in Glasgow.

Zane won a bronze medal in the 5000m and Jake finished ninth after being involved in a fall.

The 28-year-olds spend most of their time living and training in Kenya or Ethiopia.

They have also been selected for the 10,000m. Zane has the option of contesting the marathon.

Zane competed at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games where he placed 12th in the 10,000m, setting a New Zealand record of 27m 33.67s.

Jake won the Houston half marathon in January, clocking 60m 01s, the same time that won him the Lisbon half marathon 10 months earlier.

The additions brings the athletics representatives in the New Zealand Commonwealth Games team to 18.
