Catch of the day nets a cool $100k

Te Aroha cricketer Jatinder Singh was convinced the ball wasn't going to make it to him.

Next minute, he didn't just have a firm grasp on the ball, he also had a giant cheque for $100,000. New Zealand batsman Corey Anderson hit a six in the 38th over of the second one-dayer against India in Hamilton yesterday, which Mr Singh, 22, snared, instantly earning himself a bumper pay day.

A promotion by Tui Breweries has seen fans around the country flock to the cricket wearing orange T-shirts, which puts them in the running to win $100,000 for taking a one-handed catch. This applies only to the first catch on the day.

Last night an ecstatic Mr Singh told the Herald about the dramatic catch.

"The ball came our way and I stood up. Originally I thought it wasn't going to make it to me and I actually gave up," he said.

"But it just kept coming and the next thing, it was in my right hand."

Michael Morton also won $100,000 at Hamilton after making a catch in the final one-dayer between New Zealand and the West Indies two weeks ago.
