New Zealand guard Kirk Penney ended his NCAA career with the University of Wisconsin yesterday in a 63-57 loss to favourites Kentucky in the Sweet Sixteen round of the national American college basketball tournament.
Penney played the entire game and led Wisconsin in scoring with 20 points, along with sixrebounds and three assists.
He had 17 of those points in the first half as Wisconsin led by as many as seven points.
But during the second half, Kentucky forward Chuck Hayes allowed Penney few scoring opportunities and Wisconsin had no answer to the power of Marquis Estill, who scored 28 points, around the basket.
Wisconsin ended the season with a 22-7 record and Penney must now consider his professional options, including the prospect of entering the NBA draft.
