Basketball: NBA player fined for inappropriate conduct

Sacramento Kings' guard Jason Williams had been fined $US25,000 ($61,607) for "inappropriate conduct directed at fans" during last week's victory over San Antonio, the National Basketball Association said yesterday.

The fine follows the latest in a series of incidents involving Williams this season.

On March 13, the NBA fined him $US15,000 for directing a profanity at fans during a February 28 victory at Golden State.

On December 1, Williams was fined $US10,000 for another obscene gesture directed at fans.

Often a target of fans for his flashy play, Williams was also suspended for the first five games of the 1999-2000 season for failing to comply with the NBA's substance abuse policy.
