Baseball: Wildcard teams in World Series

San Francisco advanced to baseball's World Series today as David Bell got home to lift the Giants to a 2-1 victory over St Louis in game five of the National League playoff.

The victory completed a 4-1 series triumph for the Giants. They will travel down the coast to Anaheim on Sunday for game one of the best-of-seven competition. It will mark the first World Series between wildcard teams.

San Francisco last reached the World Series in 1989, losing in four games to the Oakland Athletics.

St Louis were attempting to reach the World Series for the first time since 1987.
