Air NZ begins personal ID policy

Air New Zealand's new policy of passenger identification at domestic check-in began today, with the airline reporting no major problems.

Air NZ announced last week that it would start asking passengers on domestic services to produce personal identification before boarding an aircraft.

There would be a one-month grace period, where identification was discretionary, but the policy would be enforced from July 28.

An Air NZ spokeswoman said the pre-publicity and the grace period meant everything was "going fine".

"There have been a couple of inquiries," she said.

"But people are used to this on international travel so it's almost par for the course."
