1. Hayman Island

2. Heron Island - Great Southern Barrier Reef
From loggerhead turtles to sea slugs, Heron Island is the big daddy of environmental wonders. Situated right on the Reef, Heron is a coral cay. Low tide means you can do a guided tour on to the hard corals with a marine biologist who will uncover all kinds of mysteries.

3. Fraser Island
Fraser is one of the best places in the world to 4WD, the only way to get around if you want to check out the heritage-listed island's attractions like beautiful Lake McKenzie or Eli Creek, where throngs of bikini-wearing backpackers are jumping in the water and floating towards the ocean.

4. Moreton Island
A sand island which is nearly all national park, but has live music, entertainers, dancers and food stalls. Available activities include dolphin feeding, snorkelling and diving around the Tangalooma Wrecks, parasailing, adventure safaris, sand tobogganing and quad-biking, or just hang out on the beach in the sunshine.
