ArtCraft is shaking Adobe’s share valuation targets.

Adobe and Microsoft Office have an unexpected new rival: a disgruntled US software developer who has been using AI to replicate their software. Speaking to Herald NOW Business on Thursday, Business of Tech podcast host Peter Griffin says Brandon Thomas decided to take on the global corporates after becoming frustrated at the licensing costs associated with their products. He has since built ArtCraft – a totally free, open-source replica of products like Adobe Acrobat, using Claude, which have been gaining global attention and coinciding with a drop in Adobe’s share valuation targets. While there are likely to be lawsuits against them, Griffin says ArtCraft have been clear that they haven’t stolen any code but simply used AI to remake many of the features and interfaces of the rival platforms. Griffin says the emergence of ArtCraft underlines that the future of SaaS businesses is not in software, but in trust and cybersecurity.
