A proposal to build a $30 million retirement village on the site of the former Auckland Adventist Hospital in St Heliers goes to the Auckland City Council tomorrow.
Listed retirement village operator Ryman Healthcare and an associated company, Ryman St Heliers, have applied to rezone the site and anadjoining one to pave the way for a large development accommodating at least 200 people.
An integrated retirement village and hospital are proposed for the 2.8ha site. It will include self-contained units, serviced apartments and a rest-home.
Ryman joint managing director John Ryder said the development would be spread over three areas.
The Christchurch-headquartered company said in November 1999 that it had entered into an agreement with the Australasian Conference Association, the trustee of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, to acquire the Adventist Hospital.
The developers want the land zoned "hospital and integrated retirement village".
Ryman owns nine retirement villages throughout the country. The largest is the Ngaio Marsh Retirement Village in Papanui, Christchurch.
The company reported a $14.1 million profit this year, up 12 per cent on the previous year.
