Work has begun on Wellington's newest cycle-way.
The 1.5km path would connect Haitaitai and Miramar via Cobham Drive.
Members of the Wellington City Council and the Minister for Transport took part in a sod-turning ceremony today on the Cobham Drive trail.
Wellington Mayor Justin Lester said, "The collaboration between local and central government was vital in getting to this stage."
He said it would cost around $5.5 million and the government was providing funding for it.
Transport Minister, Simon Bridges also took part in the ceremony.
He said Wellingtonians would benefit from the city becoming more cycle-friendly.
"The benefits of cycling are huge, on commuting, socialising, lifestyle and most importantly health."
Lester said he hoped the cycle-way would provide a safe environment out of traffic for kids to ride their bikes to school.
