A woman has told police she was raped and sexually violated after being picked up in Rotorua and driven to rural Rerewhakaaitu.
The 23-year-old woman said she was picked up in the town centre about 10.30pm on Friday by a man driving a four-door white saloon car.
Rotorua police Detective Percy Ruri
said the man drove the woman to Rotomahana Road, southeast of Rotorua, where she was apparently raped and sexually violated for about two hours.
The man dropped the woman on Rerewhakaaitu Road, 38km southeast of Rotorua, about 12.30am on Saturday. She was picked up by a passerby and taken to a rural police station, Mr Ruri said.
The offender was described as Maori with fair skin. The woman was wearing shiny maroon pants with a black jumper and a yellow and maroon woollen scarf. She may have also been wearing or carrying a green sweatshirt.
Police were appealing for any sightings of a man or woman fitting the descriptions at the time of the incident.
