An overnight attack has left a Whakatane woman in Waikato Hospital with serious facial injuries.
The Waikato-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with a Waikato Hospital ICU team, was called at 10pm to a Whakatane address, where a 56-year-old woman had been assaulted in her home.
The helicopter service said the womansuffered "extensive" facial injuries and was"accompanied aboard the flight by her partner.
