Woman goes to jail over $400k fraud

A former Alexandra bank manager is starting a three year jail sentence today.

Heather Scott pleaded guilty to over 60 charges in relation to defrauding Westpac of over $400,000.

In the Invercargill District Court, it was revealed that the offending started 20 years ago when she received a credit card addressed to her husband, and spiralled from that point.

In sentencing, Judge Phillips said that over the years Scott targeted family and close friends in systemic defrauding of the bank. He said Scott used her skills and experience to disguise the theft of the bank';s money.

Judge Phillips says she had a major gambling addiction.
