Woman critical after near drowning in Takapuna swimming pool

A woman has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after being found unresponsive at an Auckland swimming pool.

The woman was taken to North Shore Hospital after the incident this afternoon, which is believed to have been a near drowning.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Takapuna's Lake Rd at about 1.30pm today, a police spokeswoman said.

Neighbours told the Herald a swimming pool was located in the backyard, but were unsure who lived or was staying in the home.

Three young women also briefly left the gated house but declined to comment when approached by the Herald.

"No, no - not a nice story," one of the women said.

A police spokeswoman said the woman had been found unresponsive in a swimming pool at an address in the Hauraki area.

"At this point we do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding this incident."

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said a patient had been taken by ambulance to North Shore Hospital.

Auckland CIB were also at the scene.
