A 23-year-old woman accused of faking cancer after raising $15,000 on donation website Givealittle has been hospitalised following a home attack.
The woman, who has name suppression, appeared in the Auckland District Court last month facing three counts of fraud over the money and one of obtaining a lease ona car by deception.
Tonight, her lawyer Alex Steedman confirmed she had been assaulted on Tuesday afternoon after opening the door to her home.
"I understand that someone knocked at the door purporting to be a courier person and she opened the door and was set upon.
"As a result of the assault, she was taken to hospital."
"It is worrying for both her [23-year-old] and her family."
Online threats made to his client had been raised at her October 21 court appearance, he said.
At the time of the attack, the 23-year-old had been released to her home from hospital on temporary leave.
"Prior to this second admission, she was in hospital for four weeks. She's got a very complex medical presentation."
Mr Steedman was unaware whether any charges had been laid in relation to the assault. His client's next scheduled court appearance on Tuesday would likely have to be delayed due to injuries from the assault, he said.
