Man dies after driveway crash involving car and pedestrian in Miramar, Wellington

A man has died after an incident involving a car and a pedestrian on a Miramar driveway on Friday afternoon.

The Herald understands the man who died lived at the property on Maupuia Road where the incident occurred.

“Me and the wife noticed someone coming out on a stretcher,” a neighbour said.

The neighbour, who wished to be anonymous, said several police cars attended for hours, as well as two ambulances.

The neighbour did not hear anything from the driveway until authorities arrived.

“I heard all the noise and thought, ‘what’s going on here’.”

Maupuia Rd is in the Wellington suburb of Miramar.

“It’s normally quite a quiet area, no real issues, people keep to themselves.”

Police confirmed in a statement today that the victim had died from his injuries.

He had spent the past few days fighting for life in hospital.

Detective Senior Sergeant Lee Underhill told the Herald inquiries into the circumstances of the crash were continuing.

“Due to the seriousness of the injuries sustained, investigation staff attended.”
