Masteron locals can expect to see more police tomorrow with a wave of gang members expected in town for a funeral.
Police have warned attendees there is to be no gang insignia worn in public, nor any threatening or intimidating behaviour
“We anticipate an influx of gang members travellinginto Masterton from across the Wairarapa and other regions to attend the event,” said Acting Wairarapa Area Commander, Inspector Simon De Wit.
“Officers will be actively monitoring the situation and will respond swiftly to any issues that arise.”
De Wit referenced legislation prohibiting any gang insignia in public, which came into effect in late 2024.
