Cyclist dies weeks after crash with vehicle in Palmerston North

A cyclist has died in hospital weeks after a crash with a vehicle outside Massey University.

The cyclist was critically injured in the incident and sent to intensive care, ultimately passing away on Wednesday, police have confirmed.

The crash was outside Palmerston North’s Massey University on Tennent Dr in the afternoon.

Both the cyclist and vehicle were travelling in the same direction towards the Fitzherbert Bridge at the time of the crash, Acting Detective Sergeant Grant Christian said.

The circumstances of the crash are still being investigated.

Police earlier called for witnesses to the crash to get in touch with information.

“We are asking for assistance from the public and need to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident, or anyone who has dashcam footage of the crash, or the moments before it,” Christian said at the time.

The death will be referred to the coroner.
