Wellington homes left without water

A burst water main has left several hundred homes in some Wellington suburbs without water this evening.

The affected are Newlands, Woodridge, Paparangi and parts of Churton Park.

Wellington City Council contractors had isolated the burst but were unable to begin repairs on the main yet.

While water was being restored to some areas, others may not have service restored until shortly before midnight, a council spokesman said.

The road around the burst has reportedly been badly damaged by the force of the escaping water.
