Warnings after sewage pollutes Waitangi estuary

People are being urged not to swim in the Waitangi River estuary or take shellfish from the area after a sewage spill yesterday.

The spill, estimated at 700cu m, polluted a stream and wetland area adjoining the estuary when the main sewer line between Haruru Falls and Waitangi ruptured.

Northland Health will give the all clear when the pollution has gone.
