Wairarapa United striker Seule Soromon will be rubbing shoulders with one of soccer's best-known names, David Beckham, at the Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland on Saturday night.
Soromon, who has played for Vanuatu, has been included in the Oceania All Stars to play Beckham's LA Galaxy side in an exhibition game which will be shown live on Prime TV in New Zealand and also beamed to the United States.
Soromon, who is representing third-placed Hawke's Bay in the New Zealand Football Championship, was a star of the Wairarapa United side which won the Capital premier division title last season and went on to also win promotion to the Central League for 2009.
He scored a record 35 goals in "official" games and over 50 in total.
Soromon is one of three strikers in the All Stars line-up, the others being former Fiji captain Esali Masi and Kiwi Jarrod Smith.
Also playing alongside Soromon will be Dutch international Edgar Davids, who has played 74 games for the Netherlands and has been chosen by the great Pele to be featured in the FIFA 100, a compilation of the world's greatest living footballers.
Davids has played for Ajax Amsterdam, AC Milan, Juventas FC, FC Barcelona, Inter Milan, Tottenham Hotspur and again for Ajax.
Davids suffers from glaucoma and this requires him to wear protective goggles during football which, with his dreadlocked hair, give him a trademark look.
Captaining the All Stars will be New Caledonia and France international Christian Karembu and the team also includes Australian goalkeeper Mark Bosnich.
Wairarapa United coach Phil Keinzley expects Soromon to relish the opportunity to perform in such esteemed company.
"He's a player with enormous talent and the Galaxy defence will know he's around," Keinzley said. "Quite honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he is one of the stars of the game, that's the sort of talent he's got"
The full Oceania All Stars squad is Mark Bosnich (Australia), Jacob Spoonley (NZ), Benjamin Longue (New Caldeonia), Nelson Sale (Solomon Islands), Steven Old (NZ), Fedy Vava (Vanuatu), Ivan Vicelich (New Zealand), Raimana Lee Fung Kuee (Tahiti), Pierre Wajoka (New Caledonia), Judd Molea (Solon Islands), Francois Sakama (Vanuatu), David Muta (Papua New Guinea), Cole Peverley (NZ), Alick Maemae (Solomon Islands), Henry Faarado (Solomon Islands), Christian Karembeu (New Caledonia/France), Edgar Davids (Netherlands), Jarrod Smith (NZ), Esala Masinisau (Fiji) and Seule Soromon (Vanuatu/Wairarapa United).
