A last-minute rush on firewood by winter-wary punters has seen the last of the dry stocks sold out at many Wairarapa wood suppliers.
Several suppliers are reporting yards bare of dry firewood, with some down to wet stock or wood better saved for use next year.
Eddie Materman of Eketahuna-based Eke Woodssaid he had "pretty much" sold out of wood.
"The pine sold out last week and there's still some blue gum and macrocarpa left, but it's only 50 per cent dry," Mr Materman said.
"We haven't really got anything burnable left."
He said most of his clients were Wellington based and started stocking up in November.
"I tell all our clients get it while it's green and chuck it in your shed."
Lisa Grant from Carterton's Firewood Supplies 2010 said they were expecting a load of dry pine within the next week or two.
She said that would go for $240 per 4cu m.
Her company had been flat out since November, with the past two weeks particularly busy before the worst of the winter, Ms Grant said.
"People leave it very late and then they expect you to have it bone dry when they ring up."
Bruce Fowles of Waingawa's Waipine said he still had plenty of seasoned pine left for sale.
Prices started at $45 per cubic metre for collected wood but delivery options were also available.
He said their wood was rain wet but was still good for burning this winter. "A lot of people are burning it now but it just needs a couple of weeks airing out."
