Victoria University strike threat

Non-academic staff at Victoria University of Wellington are to strike on Monday after their 4 per cent salary claim was rejected.

Offered 2.2 per cent, the staff had voted to take industrial and protest action, the Association of University Staff said yesterday.

Association general staff spokesman Tony Quinn said the salary offer was the lowest made to any group of university staff in the country in the current wage round, and well below the national average wage and salary increase of 2.5 per cent.

A university spokesman would not comment on the strike threat.
