Meat packer Margaret Trowe flew into Auckland yesterday on the campaign trail ... the campaign for the United States vice-presidency that is.
The Socialist Workers candidate is here for a week to spread her anti-capitalist, pro-working class message.
Invited by the Communist League and the Young Socialists, Ms Trowe will visit Maoriaggrieved by the police killing of Steven Wallace in Waitara, universities, schools and workplaces.
She is touring in much the same way as her presidential running mate, James Harris, toured the country four years ago during his first tilt at the White House.
This election, culminating on November 4, Mr Harris is campaigning in Europe when the pair are not working for votes at home.
With the Socialist Workers Party regularly achieving less than 1 per cent of the vote, Ms Trowe is under no illusions about the outcome: "The workers will lose."
Ms Trowe believes socialism will come to the United States and other countries in the same way that the civil rights movement eventually overcame institutionalised racism.
"The big changes ... in society are brought about by the movements of working people."
