Two people are in a critical condition following a serious crash involving two cars south of Temuka in South Canterbury.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the Timaru-Temuka Highway at 4.55pm.

The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.

Diversions are in place at State Highway 8 and Arowhenua Rd, via Levels Plain Rd.
