Police have launched a homicide investigation after a North Shore man's death was revealed to be the result of a stabbing.
A post mortem found yesterday that mechanic Paul Chong, 51, died from stab wounds to the upper body.
Police were called to a View Rd address on Monday afternoon
after members of the public reported an assault. They discovered his body outside an industrial and commercial workshop. Medical staff were unable to revive him.
Detective Senior Sergeant Kim Libby said that the investigation would focus on two men who left the workshop immediately after police were called.
"Two males are known to have called at the local workshop prior to the arrival of police." he said.
"They were seen departing the scene in a vehicle believed to be a white or pale-coloured sedan similar to a Subaru Legacy."
The assault has shaken up business-owners in the area, who described it as a quiet commercial street with no history of violence.
A View Rd panelbeater, Riann Twine, who had met Mr Chong briefly in his work, said the stabbing had given fellow mechanics in the suburb a fright. "Coming from South Africa I'm used to the violence. But I moved here to get away from this.
"I have been in this street for about five years. We have never had this sort of drama. But this is the second incident in a short space of time. A shop owner across the road was recently beaten up, and had to have facial reconstruction. It is a bit of a worry."
Little is known about Mr Chong. Neighbouring businesses said he was a quiet man who kept his head down, lived out of his workshop and was hoping to start his business again soon.
