Two people, believed to be a father and daughter, died after a two-car crash north of Hunterville last night.
State Highway 1 was closed at the intersection of SH54, at Vinegar Hill 3km north of Hunterville, after the crash at about 7pm.
Police, fire, ambulance and the Square Trust Rescue Helicopter all
attended the crash.
The two died at the scene and a teenage girl who was also a passenger in that car was taken by ambulance to Palmerston North Hospital.
The solo male driver of the other car was initially being taken to hospital by the same ambulance as the rescue helicopter waited for one of the more seriously injured occupants of the other car to be cut free.
When that person died, the helicopter caught up with the road ambulance and then transported the male patient to Palmerston North in serious condition.
At 8.30pm, police remained at the scene of the crash and a road diversion was in place until 10pm. ? NZPA
