Two people are in hospital with serious gunshot wounds following a firearms incident in an Auckland suburb.
Police could be seen cordoning off Memorial Park Lane in Hobsonville Monday morning.
A police spokesperson told the Herald an investigation is underway after a “firearms incident in Hobsonville last night where two people were shot”.
“Police were called at about 11.20pm after two people presented at a hospital with gunshot wounds,” said the spokesperson.
Both victims remain in hospital with serious injuries.
Enquiries are ongoing to determine what happened and who is responsible for their injures.
A nearby resident told Stuff he heard what sounded like an ‘explosion’ around 11pm on Sunday.
Multiple police could be seen cordoning off Memorial Lane Drive on Monday morning.
One officer, who was in a boiler suit, was inspecting a vehicle of interest, reported Stuff.
Upper Harbour MP Cameron Brewer told the Herald the police had told him their enquiries are continuing into the motivation and nature of this alarming incident in what is a very family-oriented suburb.
“Memorial Lane Drive is an unlikely place for the discharge of firearms as it’s a very central and visible street just off Hobsonville Rd that feeds into the Hobsonville Bowling Club, Woolworths, and a children’s playground and cricket pitch.
“Police now want anyone with information, or local witnesses, to come forward to help with their investigation. Likewise, worried locals are equally keen to find out more details, which rest-assured will be released once they’re confirmed,” Brewer said.
Lorenzo Tangira pleaded guilty to murder today. It was set to be the start of his trial.
