Police have named a Porirua woman killed when hit by a van in the Hutt Valley on Saturday night.
She was Sonja Terangi Tane, 30, also known as Sonja Paku.
The death was one of two reported road deaths this weekend.
Her 46-year-old male companion was seriously injured when they were hit bya van just before midnight on State Highway 58 at Haywards Hill.
He remained in a serious condition in Wellington Hospital today.
Police have called for witnesses to the crash.
The road was closed or around four hours while a scene examination was carried out, and the driver of the van interviewed, Senior Sergeant Peter McKennie of Lower Hutt police said.
The dead woman and the injured man were part of a carload of people driving from Lower Hutt to Porirua.
The car stopped after a fight broke out among occupants. A number of people had got out of the car and continued the dispute on the road when the group was hit by the van.
Meanwhile, motorcyclist Mason John Greening, 32, of Henderson, West Auckland, died when he lost control of his motorcycle on a corner, skidded and hit a power pole in Henderson early on Sunday morning.
Henderson police said Mr Greening died at the scene.
