He will appear in the Auckland District Court on Friday.
Greig, who had since moved to Wellington, was reluctant to talk about the charges when contacted by the Herald yesterday.
"I've been advised to not talk to media at the moment until it's all sorted, you can understand the pressures of everything," he said.
He now spent his time at home recovering from his injuries, the worst of which was a compression fracture of the vertebrae.
However, he was confined to a bed and was able to walk around, he said.
"They've fitted me with a brace, so I'm all right with a brace on. While I've got that on I can be up and walking around."
Police could not comment on the specifics of the charge.
