Toddler who drowned in neighbour's pool named

A three-year-old girl who was drowned in a neighbour's swimming pool has been named.

Vimbai Machakaire was playing with her brothers and sisters in the garden of the home in the West Auckland suburb of Ranui on Thursday evening when she went missing.

When family members failed to find her, police were called and she was discovered lying face down in the next door neighbour's swimming pool.

Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.

Waitakere City Council has launched an investigation into the death.
