On Sunday night they attempted to rock, but last night it was NZ Idol contestant Luke Whaanga, 20, who was definitely rolled.
Monday night's elimination round started with the Idol hopefuls visiting Auckland's Ronald McDonald House, where children and their families stay while receiving treatment at Starship Hospital. Conspicuously absent was
Camillia Temple, 28, who had caught the flu and did not want to add to anyone's illness.
Back on the Idol stage Camillia's week was not improving, as she was named in the bottom two. Ben Lummis, 24, was sent through to the next round of the contest, where judge Paul Ellis had said he deserved to be after his high-octane performance of Sunday night.
Judging by the banner count among the audience, still managing to obediently scream on cue, Michael Murphy, 17, is still a definite favourite. He was shown having red highlights put in his hair, and proudly stated that he now felt "like a musician".
No surprises at his invitation to join Ben on the safe seat.
Thus it was to be Camillia or Luke, and Luke accepted his fate with good humour. The show had earlier featured a visit to Luke's home in Stokes Valley, where he works as a kapa haka tutor at Taita College. One of his friends confessed to having voted "about 50 times" for Luke, but this did not seem to have had much of an effect. However, as his mum said, "he likes a good laugh".
Next Sunday's performance show will have a 1980s theme.
