Marineland's ageing dolphins should be replaced to ensure the popular attraction does not go under, says Napier city councillor Stan Simmonds.
The Marine Parade attraction's future is under threat as Shona, 37, and Kelly, 35, reach the end of their lives.
The dolphins, which normally live to a maximum 20 years in
the wild, are Marineland's linchpin, says manager Gary Macdonald.
The council is still to decide what happens to Marineland when the dolphins die.
Mr Simmonds said a wonderful amenity would be lost if it was not kept running.
