Twin brothers charged in relation to anti-terror raids have been told they cannot speak to each other or their sister while their cases are before the courts.

Rongomai and Ira Bailey, 28, were among 16 people facing firearms and other charges in the Auckland District Court yesterday.

It was the first time all of the accused were due to appear in one court.

The charges they face relate to a series of police raids around the country after weapons were found in training camps.

Tuhoe activist Tame Iti also appeared in court yesterday and was remanded in custody by consent to December 3 but will next appear in court in Rotorua on Wednesday appealing against a decision not to release him on bail.

Yesterday's appearances attracted about 50 protesters, who sang songs and cooked food outside the court.

People stood with banners condemning the raids. One, a take-off of the popular Tui beer advertising campaign said: "Terrorists - yeah right."

Supporters filled the courtroom and spilled out into the hallways as the defendants appeared.

In what at times seemed more like a stage show than a courtroom, cheers of support were heard at the end of each of the accused's appearances.

They in turn smiled and waved to supporters.

Name suppression was lifted on four of the defendants, leaving six who still cannot be named for legal reasons. Ten remain in custody, with six remanded on bail.

The cases, heard by Judge Patrick Treston, continue today. The 16 defendants are:

* Ira Mangaimihi Timothy Bailey, 28. Name suppression lifted yesterday. Was released on bail. Reappears December 3.

* Tame Iti, 55. Eleven charges. In custody until Wednesday, when he will appear in Rotorua District Court to appeal against a decision not to grant him bail.

* Jamie Beattie Lockett, 46. Remanded in custody until November 12 to find out if he will be granted electronic bail.

* Omar Hamed, 19. Three firearms charges. Remanded in custody to reappear today.

* Marama Mayrick, 24. Five charges. On bail. Reappears December 3.

* Rawari Kiyami Iti. Six charges. Remanded in custody. Reappears today.

* Rongomai Peropero Bailey, 28. Four charges. Released on bail last week and did not appear in court yesterday.
