A teenager was winched to safety after getting into trouble near the peak of Mt Robertson in the eastern Marlborough Sounds.
Life Flight rescued the hiker, who was part of a hiking group and was in medical distress.
Emergency services were called early in the morning but because of low cloud,NZ Police Search and Rescue walked to the youth to stabilise the patient before the Westpac Rescue helicopter was able to find the team.
The weather remained poor until a break in the cloud in the late afternoon. The Westpac winched the patient on board before night fell.
