Teenager charged after Auckland bus driver attacked

A 14-year-old has been charged after an Auckland bus driver was attacked.

Police said officers responded about 7pm on Wednesday to reports of an injury on a bus on Colwill Rd in Massey.

Detective Senior Sergeant Ryan Bunting said that upon arrival, the alleged offender had fled on foot.

“The bus driver was transported to hospital in a moderate condition,” he said.

“This was an understandably frightening ordeal for the victim, and we are continuing to support them.”

Bunting said that after inquiries, police arrested a 14-year-old.

“He has since appeared in Waitākere Youth Court charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault and possession of an offensive weapon,” he said.

“People have a right to be safe going about their business, without having to be subjected to any type of violence.

“Any violent behaviour will not be accepted, and those engaging in it will be held to account.”

The youth will reappear in the Waitākere Youth Court on February 17.
