Teen dead after South Auckland party

A 19-year-old man died after a fight at a South Auckland party early this morning.

Police said the man died in Middlemore Hospital after being taken from the scene in Calthorp Close, Favona.

Police were notified shortly after midnight.

Police said the fight had broken out at a "small party" and the man died as a result of his injuries.

"Police are speaking to several people in relation to this incident and the scene examination continues to take place."

A post-mortem is expected to take place later today. Police said the cause of death could not be confirmed until then.

The street has been cordoned at both ends, with three or fours houses taped off.

A white tent has been erected at the scene.

One local resident who declined to be named said the street was notorious for trouble.

"The police are called here a lot," he said.

There is always something going on but for somebody to have died is shocking."
