Team NZ win costs punters money

Most people who had a flutter on the America's Cup before yesterday morning's Team New Zealand win have lost their cash.

The majority of bets at online bookmakers Centrebet were for a 5-0 win to Swiss syndicate Alinghi.

So by levelling the best-of-nine series at 1-1, Team New Zealand have disappointed a lot of punters.

Centrebet yesterday put Team New Zealand at $2.50 to bring the cup home.

Defenders Alinghi are at $1.50.

Centrebet media director Neil Evans said he expected a flurry of betting after the Dean Barker-led team's impressive performance.

"Coming from behind like that will really fire up the series."

About A$30,000 ($33,000) has been placed in bets on the America's Cup through Centrebet. The biggest on is A$3000, for an Alinghi win.

The bet now attracting most money is Alinghi to win 5-2.
