A taxi driver is out of a job after allegedly being found more than three times over the new drink driving limit.
Amandeep Singh was stopped by police driving a taxi on Alfriston Road, Auckland, in November and allegedly blew 1003 micrograms per litre of breath.
The legal limit at the time was 400mcg. After December 1, that dropped to 250mcg.
Singh appeared before a registrar in the Manukau District Court today.
His case was put off while he sought legal advice and he did not enter a plea.
General manager for Auckland Co-Op Taxis Barrie White said Singh was a contracted driver to a shareholder.
Mr White said Singh's permit to drive a taxi would have been revoked as soon as he allegedly blew over the limit.
It is unknown whether there were passengers in Singh's vehicle. He will be back in court later this month.
