Another week of fine weather could see the fire risk in some parts of the country reach high, or even extreme, say fire authorities.
No fire bans were in place yesterday but the National Rural Fire Authority, which co-ordinates rural fire management throughout the country, is keeping an eye on the Hokianga, Whakatane and Tarawera areas as well as parts of the East Coast.
A spokesman for the Fire Service said holidaymakers should take care even if they were not in a high-risk fire area.
"Another week to 10 days should see substantial drying out, providing we don't get any rain," said national rural fire officer, Murray Dudfield.
"Each day that we go through without rain the conditions will go up from moderate to high then very high and extreme."
The latest weather forecast is for fine weather but there could be a few showers around Northland and Great Barrier Island as well as the East Coast by the end of the week.
