Stolen car tries to escape police down train track

An early-morning car chase down a Wairarapa train track has ended in the arrest of two people.

Police were chasing a stolen car in Carterton about 2am today when the driver left the road and travelled down a train track, Fairfax reports.

The car crashed into trees and the occupants were found by police dogs and arrested by police shortly after.

Fairfax said train services had not been affected.
