One person has been thrown from a vehicle after a crash on State Highway 2 in Waihī this morning.
Police were alerted to the two-car crash about 9.20am. The highway was closed between Waihī and Paeroa but reopened about 3.15pm.
A police spokeswoman said the crash happened near Dean Cres and the road was blocked.
One person has serious injuries, and another moderate injuries, she said.
A St John spokeswoman said two ambulances and a helicopter were sent to the scene.
One person in a serious condition has been taken to Waikato Hospital by helicopter and the other in a moderate condition to Thames Hospital by ambulance.
The serious crash unit has been advised.
A witness at the scene said one person had been thrown from the vehicle in the crash.
A police spokeswoman confirmed one person was no longer in the vehicle after the crash.
Diversions were in place at Victoria St and Waitawheta Rd and motorists are advised to expect delays.
State Highway 2 was closed between Waihī and Hubbard Rd, north of Paeroa New Zealand Transport Agency has announced.
Emergency services were on-site and the serious crash unit are en route to carry out investigations.
A detour via State Highway 25, State Highway 25A, State Highway 26 and State Highway 2 was advised by NZTA.
