Kiwi superstars Six60 will stage their debut Wairarapa show at King Street Live in Masterton next month as part of a nationwide tour that is selling out fast, say promoters.
King Street Live bar manager Jason Ireland said the band, which has already sold out several shows on the 14-datealbum release tour, yesterday confirmed the addition of Masterton to the itinerary and was overwhelmed on a Facebook page touting the Masterton show on May 18, with more than 600 people set to attend.
Pre-sale tickets had been thrown up for grabs from yesterday as well, he said, and "there's a chance of a second show" in Masterton depending on actual sales for the debut performance, for which there will be only 400 tickets.
"They actually emailed us at the beginning of the year about playing here, and the possibility has been on the cards for a long time but hadn't actually come to fruition until now," he said.
Band spokeswoman Kylie Leggoe said the band had also added a gig in Kerikeri with shows in Wellington, Auckland, Hamilton and Whangarei already sold out and other city centres and regional shows selling fast for the tour, which is in support of the latest self-titled Six60 album.
"They're only doing a couple of smaller shows and besides it being huge Six60 want to play in Masterton, there's a very real possibility of a second show here as well. That's just plain awesome."
Mr Ireland said other acts coming to the venue, which also celebrates its second birthday next month, includes Fly My Pretties star Mel Parsons, renowned American bluesman Charlie Parr and legendary Kiwi reggae band Katchafire.
Tickets to the Six60 show at King Street Live on May 18 cost $69 apiece and go on sale Friday through ticketek.co.nz.
