Six more people may be evacuated from the Clarence River area

Marlborough Civil Defence may evacuate six more people from the Clarence River area this morning.

Yesterday, 30 rafters and kayakers were rescued from the area.

Marlborough Civil Defence controller Richard McNamara said they received a call about the group of six elderly people late last night.

They are staying at a residential property and are understood to be safe and well.

Civil Defence are attempting to get in touch with them to see if they need assistance.

"We have helicopters available to reach them if they require," McNamara said.

Civil Defence says the weather is rainy and windy and the region still faces a number of challenges.

The Pelorus River area in the Marlborough Sounds received 112mm of rain in the past 24 hours, and more rain is forecast through until Thursday.

There has been flooding on State Highway 6 west of Canvastown and the Wakamarina River has just burst its banks.
