Police have surrounded the scene of an incident on Auckland's North Shore after neighbours reported a shot was fired.
Six people have been arrested after an altercation involving a gun at Stott Avenue in Birkdale. The armed offenders squad were deployed at about 4.30pm after a neighbour called 111.
Inspector Matt Sillars said there were reports of a gun being fired at a house.
A police source said a group of people had arrived at the address just before the 111 call.
A witness said the police Eagle helicopter was circling Birkenhead College for about 45 minutes.
Three men were seen handcuffed on the ground outside the house.
Police would not say whether the incident was drug-related. However, they confirmed the situation was "contained" and the public safety was not an issue.
