A bar in Milwaukee in the United States is building an "authentic" Brazilian slum for locals to watch the football World Cup in - resplendent with colourful fake laundry strung from newly painted fake windows. The Nomad bar explains: "[The] event includes the temporary construction of a courtyard viewing area inspired by the colours and spirit of the mountainside 'favelas' of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil." Now, the poor people who live in the real favalas are actually protesting the World Cup because families have been relocated to make room for the influx of tourists and what it is costing the city could be better spent on essential services, such as schools.
