Fighting fear with flying facts
"Am I Going Down?" - an app that tells you exactly how likely your plane is to crash - is designed to alleviate fear of flying by presenting cold, hard stats. The developers sayif you're flying on a Boeing 777 Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong to Los Angeles, there's a one in 4,068,434 chance that your flight will go down en route. Data was used from such sources such as the Bureau of Aircraft Accidents Archives. (Source: Fox News)
No notes ... that's poor
A reader writes: "I bank with Kiwibank, and each month I withdraw several hundred dollars in cash, in different denominations for various purposes. So I went to the teller at the Onehunga branch to change my $50 notes, only to be told they don't hold enough cash, I have to pre-order it if I want about $300 in $5 and $10 notes. Like a pub with no beer; a bank with no cash!"
After a Missouri teacher reprimanded a mother and father (a doctor) for packing their daughter a lunch with chocolate and marshmallows, the school has reportedly offered an apology. The shaming note read as follows: "Dr and Mrs Puckett, The cafeteria reported to me that Alia's lunch today included 4 chocolate bars, a bag of marshmallows, Ritz crackers and a pickle. Please see that she packs a proper lunch tomorrow." The Pucketts uploaded a photo of the note to Facebook with the caption: "Big brother. At least get your facts straight before intruding. Four pieces of ham, low-fat string cheese, pickles, four marshmallows, and a small piece of dark chocolate (she did have two extra pieces, one for her brother and another for a friend who we know well and her parents are OK with this). There were no crackers. Sure, I'd like her to pack a few more veges and maybe fruit, but we compromise on pickles occasionally. How would you respond to this?" (Via Yahoo Parenting)
