Manurewa assault: Victim seriously injured after alleged attack with weapon

A person dropped off outside shops in South Auckland this afternoon is believed to have been assaulted with a weapon.

Police were called to a Manurewa property on the corner of Great South Rd and Weymouth Rd at about 3.10pm.

Hato Hone St John said the victim was taken to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.

The injuries were not caused by a firearm, police said.

Police are making inquiries to locate those involved.

The victim was dropped close to where a person was stabbed multiple times at Manurewa Railway Station last week.

In that incident, the victim was approached by a man who repeatedly stabbed them before attempting to steal their backpack, police said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michele Gillespie said a witness drove toward the scene, causing the alleged offender to flee.

Police caught a 24-year-old man nearby, and he was due to appear in the Manukau District Court later that day charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
